Match Report

Windrush looking strong

Another great match and an outstanding goalkeeping display by Malachi Hope had everyone on the edge of their seats as Windrush played out an enthralling 3-3 draw with Whetstone Jr’s

Windrush started brightly with Leo Hogoc running the midfield along with Josh Readdie & Mo Abdulzahra who both looked effective on the left & right side. Chances came and went for Windrush with Readdie & Abs Mangara both coming close. As the minutes ticked by, Whetstone edged their way back in to the match, forcing Hope to make 3 very brave saves. With the match at 0-0 Windrush conceded a penalty when Mangara brought down the opposing striker but again, Hope pulled off a wonder save down low to his right & the game remained 0-0

Whetstone started to pile on the pressure and eventually took the lead wit ha well worked move but it was short lived as Windrush hit them twice in 5 minutes with goals from both Readdie & Abdulzahra sending Windrush into the lead before half-time.

Carib SSFC (Windrush) 2 – 1 Whetstone Jr (Panthers)

Windrush again started brightly with Mangara pushing forward more on the left & Abdulzahra moving into the central striker role. More chances came with Mo spurning a couple after rounding the keeper but squeezing his shots just wide.

Even with a 2-1 lead & the majority of the play, Whetstone were still dangerous & Hope had to be at his very best to stop a point blank shot after a cross from the right & then a long range effort that came through a crowd of legs. The equaliser eventually came after some slack defending allowed  their forward an easy finish but again, Windrush kicked in the gears & took the lead with another Abdulzahra strike making it 3 goals in his last 2 games.

With the match coming into it’s last 5 minutes the Whetstone lads pushed forward & got a deserved equaliser when a hopeful long range effort went through everyone’s legs & foun it’s way into the bottom corner.

A well deserved draw against higher level opposition that leaves Windrush in good stead for the start of their league season
