Match Report

Windrush sail to victory

Another strong display & some fantastic goals saw Windrush edge out Lutterworth Athletic in a six goal thriller at Victoria Park.

Windrush started a little slowly and found themselves 1-0 down after 10 min from a well worked cross and tidy finish. Once Windrush settled and started to pick the tempo up they were unlucky not to level it up after a couple of good chances. Lutterworth then almost went 0-2 up when they were awarded a penalty which fortunately for Windrush was missed.

Then, a real goal to remember when Josh Readdie picked up the ball deep in our half & took on one player, skiped by a second, took on another two and had the composure to smash it in the top corner to level the score at 1-1.

With plenty of the first half remaining both teams had everything to play for and Windrush had to rely on Malachi Hope to make a couple of very important saves. Hope then turned provider when after making the initial save, he delivered the perfect long ball over the top to Zain Matin who turned on it and smashed it in to give Windrush a 2-1 lead. A great goal that was but quickly followed by his second of the day which was an absolute stunner when Matin scored a tremendous bicycle kick from a Readdie corner that made it 3-1 with only a couple of minutes left in the first half.

Lutterworth finished the half strong and forced a couple more great saves out of Hope but the half-time whistle went with Windrush in control.

Carib Windrush 3 – 1 Lutterworth Athletic

Windrush kicked off the second half & controlled the game much better by keeping possession and creating plenty of chances. As legs started to tire Windrush made a couple of change’s & Lutterworth managed to pull a goal back after a good counter-attack found their striker 1 on 1 with Hope and slotted it very nicely in the bottom corner to make it 3-2.

A frantic few minutes as we entered the last 10 but Windrush soon settled down and started taking control again, and after a long deep cross from Matin found Zwelakhe Booi who controlled it beautifully stepped inside and finished it well to make it 4-2

An impressive win after a 4 week break, Windrush showed heart & character to come from behind & eventually win comfortably.
